Iris Howell passed away peacefully in her home in Houston on Friday, April 11, 2015 at the age of 86.

She was born to Nadean and J.I. Hamilton in Silverton, Texas. Her father moved his growing family to Texas City to become one of the first auto mechanics there, opening Ham's Garage on Texas Avenue. Her six brothers grew up working in the garage, and most became auto mechanics, with some sons and grandsons assuming positions with auto dealerships as mechanics and service managers. Her three sisters were loving mothers and homemakers.

Iris was a talented seamstress, but was best-known as the owner of Cut & Curl Beauty Salon in La Marque for many years.

She was preceded in death by Jack Howell, her husband of 35 years. Iris is survived by two daughters, Midge Jackson of Tyler, and Nora Aden of Houston. She was very close to her sons-in-law, Harvey Jackson and Mike Aden. She was grandmother to Matthew and Andrew Jackson, and Kelley and Kerry Powell, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 24th at 10:00 AM at Emken-Linton Funeral Home in Texas City, with graveside service at 2:00 PM at Galveston Memorial Park Cemetery in Hitchcock.
