Enlisted on 4/15/1861 in Greenbriar County, on 6/22/1861 at Charleston, WV., he was mustered into Company I, 22nd Virginia Infantry as a Private.
Listed on Sept & Oct 1862 and Nov & Dec Rolls as Sick since 11/11/1862 in Giles County,Va. No further record.
Reappears as conscripted, reporting for duty on 3/30/1864 at Dublin, VA., and mustered into Company E, 22nd Virginia Infantry as a Private.
Present on March & April 1864 Roll.
Listed on April 30 - Nov 1 1864 Roll as hospitalized since 9/1/1864 in Charlottesville, VA., with ulcers; no further record.

On 6/3/1901, age 73, living in Lithia, VA., he applied for a partial disability Confederate Soldier Pension due to infirmities of age. He was approved for $15 per annum.
He applied 6/23/1902 for total disability and was approved for $30 per annum.

The 22nd Virginia Infantry Regiment, formerly known as the 1st Kanawha Regiment, was organized and accepted into Confederate service in July, 1861. Its members were from the counties of Jackson, Craig, Nicholas, Alleghany, Wyoming, and Boone. The 22nd saw action at Carnifex Ferry and later lost twenty-one percent of the 550 engaged at Droop Mountain. It was assigned to Echols' and Patton's Brigade, participated in the Shenandoah Valley operations, and disbanded during the spring of 1865.
