Brownell W. “Chuck” Goebel, age 90, of Eaton, OH, passed away Thursday, March 3, 2016 at his residence. He was born October 19, 1925 in Ann Arbor, MI to the late Charles and Cora Goebel. Chuck graduated from the University of Toledo with two degrees: an Associate’s Degree in Engineering Technology in 1968 and a Bachelor of Science in 1975; he was a Merchant Marine, where he served as Seaman/Inspector In-charge in the Great Lakes; he was a member of the Maritime Heritage Alliance, Traverse City, MI; member of the Toledo Power Squadron, serving as commander in 1984; served as a Coast Guard Auxiliary Commander, Charlevoix, MI; member of the Toledo Yacht Club, Bay View Yacht Club and Port Clinton Yacht Club, where he sailed a 60’ Double Masted Sailboat on the Great Lakes; he formerly worked at Johns Manville Corporation in the Research and Development Department, developing patents; he was co-owner of Travelers Inn Restaurant, Port Clinton, OH.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Barbara Goebel of Eaton, OH; daughter Cheryl (James) Koeller of Eaton, OH; sons Michael (Cynthia) Goebel of Ashtabula, OH, Charles “Craig” Goebel of Newark, OH and Gerald “Pete” Goebel of Ashtabula, OH; grandchildren: Lara (Doug) Mahler, Matt (Cynthia) Kropelin, Josh Kropelin, Michael Goebel, Jennifer (Will) Estep, Michelle Kupay, Jeremy (Michelle) Goebel, and Chrystal Goebel; and 18 great grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 10:00 am until time of memorial services at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Grace Lutheran Church, 111 Lutheran Drive, Eaton, OH with Pastor Warren Reichert officiating. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family in Sylvania, OH. Girton Schmidt & Boucher Gard Funeral Home, Eaton, OH is assisting with arrangements.
