Joshua died in Union County in 1835 and is buried at Scull Shoals cemetery Scull Shoal Baptist Church (est. 1776) which is in Cherokee County down hwy. 105 just across the Pacolet River. He died at the age of 86 and the grave stone which is broken describes him as a captain which may be an indication that he was in the Revolutionary War. The stone reads "to the memory of Capt. JOSHUA PALMER who died Dec. 5th 1835 age 86 years." After looking at a map of Union District printed in 1820 Scull Shoal was in the Union County District. (Union County Heritage 1981 p. 374)

The Joshua's gravestone indicates he was aged 86, which would correspond to yob of 1749. According to his Rev. War Pension record, Joshua's yob was 1750.
In actuality, he was born in the year 1749 because, at the time of his birth, the Colonies were still using the old Julian calendar. In 1752, the Gregorian calendar was adopted in the Colonies, and the alteration needed to sync up dates adjusted his yob to 1750. It is most correctly stated as 1749/50.
