Job Cole was born in Farmington, CT to Nathaniel and Elizabeth Woodford Cole. He married Lydia Judd (1713-1776) about 1740 in Farmington, CT. He was a town commissioner in Farmington in 1772. Job died about 1779 in the Kensington area of Hartford County and was buried at Ledge Cemetery in Kensington. His gravestone was counted by the WPA Census in 1934 and the stone was described as "obliterated", with only the Cole surname still legible. A more recent inspection (about 72 years later!) indicates that Job's gravestone is now completely unreadable although still standing upright (next to wife Lydia's quite readable stone).
There are quite a few members of the Cowles family in this cemetery. The Cole and Cowles families are presumed to be distantly related. It is believed that some members of the Cole family changed their name to Cowles in the mid 1600's when they were all living in Hartford.

NOTE: Several living male members of the Cowles family who trace their ancestry back to Hartford and Farmington have taken yDNA tests. Their DNA markers do not match several living male members of the early Hartford and Farmington Cole families. So it seems that the Cowles and Cole families are probably not related after all.
