Charles Eugene "Charlie" Redfearn, 84, Mt. Vernon, died at home Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016, with his family. He was born May 5, 1931, in Mt. Vernon to Hershel E. and Ethel Pendleton Redfearn. He was a lifelong resident of Lawrence County and a 1949 graduate of Mt. Vernon High School.
He was a master carpenter and contractor. After retirement he drove the Mt. Vernon city taxi for many years.
He was a veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Post 120, Miller, where he was past commander, adjutant and bingo chairman. He was an avid fisherman, bingo player and an incredible story teller. He loved his family and enjoyed many activities with his grandkids and great-grandkids. He was of the Christian faith. He was a very social person and always found someone to talk to.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joy; three sons, Jim Redfearn and Sheila Renard, David and Dianna Redfearn, all of Mt. Vernon, and Aaron and Sheila Redfearn of Brandon, FL; nine grandchildren, Summer and Nathan Conn, Shaunda and Sean Killingsworth, Joshua Mueller and Ashley Mueller, all of Springfield, Eva Lee Redfearn and Jameson Redfearn, both of Brandon, FL; and Chelsea and Dustin Tudor, Wylie and Stephanie Redfearn and Daniel Redfearn, all of Mt. Vernon; 12 great-grandchildren, Sawyer Conn, Kaedance Kye and Kaymbria Killingsworth, Isaiah, Carley and Grace Mueller, Amari, Brogan and Eliyas Tudor and Arizona and Nova Redfearn; honorary daughters, Nancy, Shannon and Cheryl; honorary sons, Kevin and Jim W.; and best friend Dean West; many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel and Ethel Redfearn; one sister, Anna Lou Weaver; and one granddaughter, Aayla Redfearn.
Services were Feb. 27 at Lifebridge Assembly of God Church, Mt. Vernon. Private burial was at Mt. Vernon City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask donations be made to the Children's Miracle Network in honor of Charles Redfearn.
