Maxine was born on October 11, 1923 in Marion, the daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Angus) Culp. Maxine graduated from Harding High School. On August 24, 1941, Maxine was united in marriage to William K. Varner. Together they shared 55 years until he preceded her in death on June 30, 1996.
Maxine was held in high esteem as the matriarch of her family. She was a devoted homemaker to the family she adored. Hosting family dinners filled her spirit with joy. She was warm and caring with a great sense of humor. She enjoyed tending to her beautiful flower gardens, reading and especially time spent on the golf course. She and William enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas. They spent many winters in Florida and South Carolina.
She is survived by her devoted children : Bob (Bonnie) Varner and Rick (Debbie) Varner; daughter-in-law Kathy (Ed) Nelson; grandchildren: Deneen McWilliams, Kimberly (Chris) Kantzer, Leslie Ross, Lindsey (Tyler) Thompson, Betsey Walters, Chris (Kathleen) Varner, Tom (Susie) Varner, and Erin (Leslie) Varner; 21 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband William; son Larry Varner and 3 siblings.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at the Denzer-Farison-Hottinger & Snyder Funeral Home, 360 East Center St., Marion from 3PM to 5PM; Funeral services honoring Maxine’s life will be held Monday at Emanuel Lutheran Church, 241 S Prospect St, Marion at 10AM with Pastor Kevin Kehn officiating; Burial will be held in Marion Cemetery.
If so desired, donations may be made to the Ohio Health Hospice, formerly Marion General Hospital Hospice, or the Emanuel Lutheran Church.
