DEATH IN SNOWSLIDE

Alta Again Visited by a Horribly Destructive Avalanche

Ten Men and Two Women Killed and Terribly Mangled

Emma Works and Machinery Swept Away - $30,000 Damages

Death in whatever form it comes is a sad event to chronicle, but when by a catastrophe a number of souls are ushered suddenly into eternity, without one moment's warning or time for consideration, it becomes a truly sad and appalling event to record. There are perhaps fewer deaths resulting from the avalanche and snow slide than from almost any other cause, and yet there is about such a form of death a suddenness and rapidity that men shrink from and fear.

The slide occurred about half past six o'clock last Friday night, in the mountains at the head of Little Cottonwood Canyon, and as the people were kept busy attending to the dead...no word was received in this city till yesterday afternoon, and then from parties who had come to this city for safety.

Witnesses reported no noise or warning of any sort. Those who perished were snuffed out suddenly.

D. D. Wasson, Byron Wasson, Edward Crockett and N. S. Delano will be buried in one lot at Mt. Olivet Cemetery today, the funeral to take place from Sexton Taylor's office at 2 o'clock. The Wasson brothers will be buried in the same grave. The father of these men, living at Mineville, near Port Henry, N.Y., having seen an account of the death of his sons in the Associated Press dispatches sent a telegram on the 11th inst. to George Cullins telling him to send the bodies to that place, but on the 12th he received a dispatch countermanding the first order, and directing that the burial take place here and the spot securely marked.

(The Utah Burial database has them at Salt Lake City Cemetery with removal to Mount Olivet.)
