Served as justice (judge) in Greenup County, KY 1813-1818

On 14 May 1813, James was permitted to establish and operate a ferry across Little Sandy near the falls. Rates were 6 1/4 cents for man or horse.

In 1830, James was a practicing physician in Greenup.

In December term of court 1851, James took oath as deputy of the court of Robert Gilbert, Justice of the Peace First District.

The Greenup Masonic Lodge received its charter in 1827 and in 1829 numbered 155 members. Dr. James was one of the charter members.

James lived on the south side of Main St. where the John Moran house ans store stood for many years.James VanBibber was born in Botetourt County, Virginia on August 8, 1762. He was the son of John and Chlorinda Standifer VanBibber. His family moved to Kanahwa County, Virginia before 1797, where his father was involved in the government of the new county. James married Lois Reynolds, sister of John Reynolds, in Kanawha County on June 6, 1792. James and Lois had six children. They moved to Catlettsburg, Kentucky, where James died on August 5, 1841. Lois died in 1850. The final resting place of James is not known.
