Jess was born to Jeter and Mary Street Byrd. He married the former Madge K. Fannin on oct 27 1949. Jess was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Military Police during the Korean War, He was a member of the Mansfield Lodge 35 Free and Accepted Masons. Mansfield Scottich Rite, Valley of Columbus and the Shriners Club. He lived most of his life in Mansfield, residing in Naples, Fl from 1993 until 2002. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Naples. Jess owned and operated Byrd Ambulance Service for 30 years. Jess was a founding member and past president of the Ohio Ambulance Association.
Jess is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lori Susan and Douglas Fields of Tallahessee Fl., his son and daughter-in-law Jess "Jay" and Dana Byrd of Ontario; four grandchildren; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Mildred and Jim Redfro, Eileen Auck all of Spring Hill Fl. and Sue and Larry Bame of Lady Lake, Fl.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by wife Madge on oct 17 2005, parents; an infant son Jeffery Scott; his sister Goldie Yeager and brothers, Dallas, Willard, Dillard, and Jack Byrd.
