Owen Lester Bender, 73, 735 S. Main St., died Wednesday, March 10, 1999, at University Hospitals of Cleveland, after a long period of declining health.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Auble Funeral Home in Orrville, with the Rev. Randall Gehres officiating. Private burial of the cremains will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Christ United Church of Christ, 301 N. Main St., Orrville 44667.
Owen was born April 28, 1925 in Accident, Md., to Mahlon and Elizabeth (Handwerk) Bender and married Mary Lou Hastings on Nov. 9, 1947 in McHenry, Md. She survives.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sandy Bender of Orrville and Russell and Cathy Bender of Canton; granddaughters and their husbands, Renee and Jody Troyer of Shreve and Tacy and Jim May of Canton; a great-grandson, Trey Owen Troyer; four step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Claude and Viola Bender of Colorado, and Walter and Alice Bender of Winder, Ga.; and sisters, Sarah Yoder of Orrville, Velma Miller of Berlin, Olive Bender of Accident, Md., and Mable West of Canton.
