Iris Edwards Morgan, 99, passed away peacefully at home on March 1, 2016.
Iris was born November 19, 1916 at her maternal grandmothers home in Riverdale, Idaho (near Preston) to Vernon Benjamin Edwards and Harriet Elizabeth Barrington Edwards. Iris had five brothers and two sisters (three lived to adulthood). The Edwards family was very close and I'm sure they are having a grand reunion! Iris was the oldest sibling but out lived them all! They lived in Thayne, Montpelier, Marysville, Sugar City and finally settled in Lincoln. She has read a lot of newspapers and watched a lot of history unfold in her 99 years! She graduated from Ammon High School in 1936.
Iris started working for the U&I Sugar Factory in Lincoln in 1941 as a lab technician. Sometimes she made candy to test the sugar and shared it with the employees and neighborhood kids. She worked there for 38 years till the factory closed in 1979. In between campaigns she worked at Jensen's Photo Studio.
She met Veril W Morgan, a World War II veteran, at the Factory and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1947. They enjoyed camping, fishing, and going to family reunions. She lovingly shared her talents of making quilts, embroidery work and afghans. In 1949 Veril and Iris started building their home on Lincoln road. She lived approximately 90 of her 99 years in Lincoln!
Their son, Bill, and daughter-in-law Cindy, gave them 8 grandchildren who adored their grandparents and loved every minute spent with them. Iris has always been a shining example of kindness and patience to her whole family. She had many nieces and nephews who also adored her.
Iris was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She loved teaching Primary and Sunday school, being a visiting teacher, and was Ward Librarian for 13 years.
In later years she enjoyed the view looking out her front window, family picnics in the yard and the companionship of her cute little dog, Jackson.
Iris was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Hattie, her husband, Veril, and siblings, Lyman, Clarence, Lawrence, Alene, Ruth, Alvin and George, also a grandson, Michael.
She is survived by her son, William Kent Morgan (Cindy) of Lincoln, seven grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at the Sand Creek 2nd Ward Building, 2545 Mesa. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 to 1:45 Saturday before the funeral. Interment will be in the Lincoln Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home.
