HORSESHOE BEND — Samuel Phillip Clarkson, 84, of Route #1, Horseshoe Bend, Idaho, died Sunday, Sept. 8, 1985, in a Boise hospital of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, at the Ladies Club Hall, Horseshoe Bend, under the direction of Summers Funeral Home, Boise, with Rev. Mike Dismer officiating. Burial will be in Horseshoe Bend Pioneer Cemetery.
Mr. Clarkson, a rancher, was born Aug. 15, 1901, at Horseshoe Bend. He worked in the lumber industry in the Boise Basin from 1918 to 1923. He moved to Baker and Wallowa Oregon to work in the lumber industry in 1927. Sam married Thelma Johnson on Sept. 22, 1926, at Nampa. They moved to Nampa after their marriage. He bought a ranch in the Horseshoe Bend area in 1931 and farmed there until his death.
He was a member of the Payette River Cattlemans Association, Placerville Masonic Lodge 3 AF & AM., the Shrine Club in Emmett, Gold Rush Shrine of Boise and the Farm Bureau.
Survivors include four daughters, Henrietta "Polly" Woods of Horseshoe Bend, Patricia Folwell of Olympia, Wash., Joan Miller of Twin Falls and Barbara Mansfield of Monterey Park, Calif.; a brother, John Robert Clarkson of Palo Alto, Calif.; two sisters, Mary Jensen of Boise and Etta Foss of Horseshoe Bend; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. His wife, Thelma, and three sons died earlier.
Friends may call Thursday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Summers Funeral Home, Boise.
