Ephraim Towne was born in Worcester county Massachusetts on January 6, 1796. Soon after, his family moved to New York, where Ephraim remained until 1816. At the age of twenty, he moved to Willoughby, then in Lake County Ohio. He married Almira Mitchell on July 1,1820 in Orange, Cuyahoga County, where they resided until 1828 when they moved to Amherst
