Ralph I. Buhite, 80, Millcreek Twp, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998, at Hamot Medical Center.

He was born May 9, 1917, in Sykesville son of the late Oscar Glenn and Margaret (Anderson) Buhite.

He was a member of Cascade United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School, formerly sang in the chior, was a trustee and served on the missions and finance committees.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for 65 years as a scout and scout leader with the French Creek Council. He served on the council's executive board and property comittee and received the Silver Beaver Award, the George Meany Award, Church and Service Award, the Wood Badge with three beads and the Order of the Arrow.

Ralph, who had lived in Erie since 1950, worked for Hammermill Paper Company for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He previously worked for Kramer Mines in Kramer.

He was a US Army veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of American Legion East Erie Post 771.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Patterson and Eileen Smiley. His wife of 57 years, Montrose "Monty" Buhite passed away January 13, 2000.

He is survived by his daughter, Kathy Rudd and her husband Tom Rudd of Girard, PA; his son, Richard Buhite and his wife Susan Buhite of Anaheim, CA; brother Walter Buhite of Kittanning, two grandchildren, Brian Foley and Kimberly Buhite-Howery; seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
