David was born to Edmund R. and Ethel F. (Howe) McCann.
His early years were spent in Dunlap before moving to Omaha. He graduated from Creighton Prep and served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Colonel. David also graduated from Creighton University and Creighton Law School.
David was united in marriage to Ethel Dinneen on June 4-1955 and seven children were born.
The McCann's moved to Council Bluffs in 1961, and David was a partner in the Dipple-MCann Law Office.
He was a long time member of St. Patrick's Church.
Lifelong Democrat and avid Creighton Bluejay and Chicago Cubs Fan.
