Ronda Mae Buckles Curtis, 76, of Troy died Friday February 26, 2016 peacefully in her home.
She was born April 26, 1939 at the family home outside of Troy to Harlan “Judge” and Verla Chaplin Buckles.
Ronda attended school in Troy and graduated in 1957. She then attended school in Burlington for training as a surgical nursing aid.
She married Donald W. Curtis of La Harpe, IL on June 14,1958 in Pulaski. To this union were born three children: Terri Jo Weideman (Karl) of Cedar Rapids, Arletta Schweitzer (Randy of Independence and Eddie Curtis of Troy.
Ronda was a member of I.O.O.F. Order of Rebekah and had the honor of being a fourth generation member actively involved in the same assembly. While living in Independence she was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, holding many offices during her years of membership. She held the position of Rainbow Mother of the Order for Rainbow Girls for many terms while her daughters Terri and Arletta were involved. After moving back to Troy, she joined Twin City Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Douds.
She helped her son, Eddie, raise pigeons, a bantam rooster and cheered him on when he played football. She also sold Avon for 15 years and helped out during election years at the neighborhood voting poll sites.
In 1988 Ronda moved back to her family home in Troy to help take care of her parents and made her home there.
In 1993 she took over running the Troy Store and ran it until 2001. Her most honored position was her job as secretary and as matron for transporting of female prisoners for Bloomfield Police Department, which she held for 15 years, before retiring in 2013. During her time as secretary, the officers became “her boys”, she gave them advice just as she would her own children.
Ronda enjoyed many things during her life, she was a fantastic seamstress, loved to knit and crochet, gardening, bowling, traveling and especially being the best, most supportive mom, grandma and great-grandma a kid could ever ask for and a fantastic friend to many.
Ronda is survived by her three children, grandchildren Jordan Driscoll (Morgan), Amie Driscoll, Alissa Glaspie (Justin), Marissa Wells (Brandon Anderson), Danielle Weideman, Bryce Schweitzer and Annie Mitchell (David), great-grandchildren, Brody Driscoll, Jaxson Anderson, Ryder Glaspie and Addison Mitchell and a sister, Margaret Ann Crowe of Urbandale.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, foster granddaughter, Neko Hemmie and a great-grandson, Jaidyn Anderson.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 Am Tuesday March 1, 2016 at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua with Rev. Carol Iammatteo-Code officiating. Visitation will open at 3 P.M. Monday February 29, 2016 with family present 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home. Easter Star service will follow the visitation at 7:00 P.M. by Twin City Chapter 258, Douds. Burial will be in Troy Cemetery.
