Pat Jewell, age 71, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, February 29, 2016, at Wellington Place Nursing Home in Decorah, IA.

Patricia Lee (Eggen) Jewell was born on January 15, 1945, the daughter of Harvey K. and Vivian (Kratz) Eggen in Decorah, Iowa. Pat graduated from Decorah High School in 1963 and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines in 1964.

She returned to Decorah and worked for Farm Bureau for five years. Pat then worked for Bankers Life Insurance Company in Des Moines for seven years, traveling the United States. She moved back to Decorah in 1977 and worked for Security State Bank and Trust.

Pat married Tom Jewell on September 13, 1980, in Waukon.

She worked on the farm, did bookwork, and helped raise her two step-daughters: Jamie and Trish. In 2002, Pat worked for Wal-Mart and then Wellington Place.

In 2003, she bought her condo and moved into town. For many years, Pat had been the legal guardian for her niece, Shayne Eggen and an advocate for her mental health care issues.

Pat enjoyed making cloth diapers, baby clothes, quilting, walking and above all her family and grandchildren. Pat was a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America, and made baptismal stoles for years.

Pat is survived by her two step-daughters: Jamie (Matt) Walther, Ringgold, GA; and Trish Reicks, Lawler, IA. Son-in-law, Rory Reicks, Lawler, IA. Eight grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Lila and Henry Walther; Carter, Nelson, Ellie and Anna Reicks. Brother-in-law: Don “Boone” Ward, Burr Oak, IA. Sister-in-laws: Elizabeth VouVakis, Oakland, MI; Ethel Jewell, Evansdale, IA, and Rosie Jewell, Decorah, IA. Nieces and nephews: Shayne Eggen, Alana Eggen, Stacey Eggen, Marcy (Jeff) Quas, Lance (Rebecca) Eggen, Dana Spry, Roberta (Mike) Sloan, Bobby (Paula) Jewell, and Rebecca (Lee) Fernandez, Mike (Deb) Jewell, Kathy Adkisson, Steve (DeAnn) Jewell, Jim (Julie) Jewell, and Karen (Dave) Broell; along with many great nieces and nephews.

Pat was preceded in death by her parents: Harvey and Vivian (Kratz) Eggen. Sisters: Connie Eggen in infancy and Carol Ward in 1993. Brother: Donald Eggen in 2003. Brother-in-laws: Bob Jewell and Clarence Jewell Jr.; Sister-in-law: Sr. Rosemary Jewell; Niece: Renae Jewell.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict Catholic Cemetery, Decorah, IA.

Friends may call from 2:00-5:00 p.m., on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue in Decorah, and also after 9:30 a.m., at the church on Monday morning. There will be a CDA rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.
