Giles is the 3rd Great Grandson of Elder John White, a founder of Cambridge, MA and Hartford, CT.

Giles White was born about 1752 at Hadley, Hampshire County, MA the son of William White, Jr. and Lydia (Patterson) White. He married his cousin Sarah Dodd, daughter of Ebenezer and Mary (White) Dodd in 1780 at Hadley, MA. They were living in Guilford, CT in April 1786, but removed to Halifax, VT in 1790, and from there to Cobleskill, Schoharie County, NY in September 15, 1797. Giles moved from there with his family to Franklin, PA then ending up near Garland, Warren County, PA around 1800.

He made his living as a Lumberman, Tavern Owner, and Builder of lumber mills. In 1806 Giles planted the first apple orchard in Warren County with John Chapman (known as Johnny Appleseed). Giles also built the first lumber mill in Brokenstraw Valley, Warren County, PA. Aside from lumbering, in 1808 Giles was operating a farm of 100 acres with oxen, cows, and horses. Giles deeded the land for the present-day "Whitestown Cemetery" on the original Giles White homestead just outside Garland, PA.

Giles was a Revolutionary War Veteran having fought with the Massachusetts and Vermont Militias. At the age of 25, Giles enlisted as a Private in Capt. Moses Kellogg's Company, Col. Porter's (Hampshire Co., MA) Regiment; marched Sept, 23, 1777; discharged Oct. 18, 1777; service of 32 days, including 6 days (114) miles travel home; company marched to reinforce the Northern army under Maj. General Gates on an alarm. Giles again served in the Vermont militia after his arrival in Halifax, VT. Two sons of Giles and Sarah served in the War of 1812.

Giles died April 21, 1813 in Garland, PA and is buried in the Whitestown Cemetery, Warren County, PA. His wife Sarah died three days later and is buried beside him. The children of Giles and Sarah White are:

3. William White (1789 - 1841)
