Claude Vincent Barnes, 78, of Charleston passed away May 29, 2011, after a short illness. He was residing at the Rocksprings Rehabilitation Center, Pomeroy, Ohio, at the time of his death.
Claude was a lifetime resident of Charleston's West Side, born March 4, 1933. He attended Stonewall Jackson High School.
He was a Christian who read his Bible daily. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Claude was a shy and humble man who was an accomplished softball and basketball player but, in later years, was best known for his Kanawha Boulevard running. To many of the boulevard runners, Claude was known as "the ghost."
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude J. and Mary K. Barnes; and brother, Clarence E. Barnes.
Survivors include his loving sister, Mary Catherine Kline and her husband, George E. Kline; nephews, David M. Kline and wife, Theresa, Gary E. Kline and wife, Sherry, and Robert J. Kline; and six great-nieces and -nephews.
