Services will be held at: 1:00 P.M., on Thursday, May 25, 2006, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Private family interment services will take place on Friday at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church, Salvation Army or the Marshall County Conservation Board. Visitation times are: 5 to 7 P.M. Wednesday at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory, where the family will be present to greet friends. Melvin Leonard Riley was born on October 21, 1916 in Norway, Iowa, the son of Neil M. and Gladys Spurrier Riley Huston. He was raised and educated in the Hartland area, graduating from the Albion High School with the class of 1933. On December 28, 1939, he was united in marriage to Esther Louise Gould in Albion, Iowa. They farmed in the Hartland, Rhodes and State Center areas until 1959, and owned and operated Riley Food Store in Melbourne until their retirement in 1974. Bud was the caretaker of the Melbourne Cemetery for many years during his retirement. He was a member of the First Congregational Church in Marshalltown, a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge, 50 Plus Club in Melbourne, B.P.O. Elks Lodge #312, and the Melbourne Saturday Morning Coffee Group. Bud is survived by his wife: Esther Riley of Marshalltown, two daughters: Lynne (George) Chardoulias of Aurora, Colorado and Peggy (Brad) Schoer of Marshalltown; five grandchildren: Meri (Chris) Edel, Julie (Tim) Mull, Jodi (Jeff) Duffy and Chris & Jessie Chardoulias; five great-grandchildren: Alex & Leah Edel, Breanna Wooldridge, Avery Mull and Erin Duffy; sister: Arlene Hauser of Union; sister-in-law: Doris Riley of State Center; step-sister: Marilyn Benson of Liscomb; four nephews: Leonard Nyce, Kenny Nyce, Doug Riley and Mike Riley; and a niece: Marlys Hauser. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father:Denver Huston and brother:Everett Riley.
