A. Ramsay Gifford, 99, of Nashua, NH, formerly of East Wakefield, NH, Vero Beach, FL and Needham, MA passed away April 23 from complications from a broken hip.
Ramsay was born May 5, 1912 in Lowell, MA, the son of the late Alden and Mary Gifford, and widower of Lucile (Lombard) Gifford who died in 2007.
He graduated from Lowell High school in 1928 and Boston University in 1932 earning a Bachelors Degree in accounting.
He had been employed by the Town of Needham, as the Treasurer and Tax Collector, and prior to that as the Comptroller of Morgan Memorial and Assistant Treasurer of the Sanborn Division of Hewlett-Packard Co. He and Lucile enjoyed New England summers and Florida winters for 28 years. They were active square and ballroom dancers and while in Needham they operated The Champagne Way dance instruction for students. He was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist.
Ramsay is survived by two sons, Andrew R. Gifford, Jr. and his wife Joy of Vale, Oregon and R. Bruce Gifford and his wife Margaret of Nashua and Wolfeboro. Other family members include his grandchildren; Andrea Swanson, Deborah Petersen, Robert Gifford Jr., Wesley Gifford and Alexander Gifford. Surviving great grandchildren are; Jonathan Swanson, Jared Swanson, Hailey Petersen, Ashley Petersen, and Bruce Gifford.
Funeral arrangements are private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the charity of ones choice.
