"Minnie Louise Brooks, age 85 of Akron, formerly of Ravenna and Charlestown, was released into God’s hands on Wednesday, May 14, 2014. She was born December 19, 1928, in Madison, North Carolina, to parents James H. and Minnie Spencer (Bullins) White. Minnie worked for many years at Polson Rubber in Garrettsville. She was a member of the Freewill Baptist Church and Union Local 1420. Minnie was a loving mother and proud grandmother, and always put family first. She enjoyed flower gardening, especially her Christmas cactus. Minnie is survived by her children: Helen Marie (John) Lowe of Charlestown, Brenda Sue Cripple of Akron, Barbara (Stanley) Hillis of Ravenna, and Pamela Kay Johrendt of Akron. Her memory will also be cherished by her twelve grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, including Shawnna Cripple, and her great-great-grandchildren, as well as her brother Ralph (Linda) White, and sister-in-law Helen White all of West Virginia. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband William L. Brooks, her daughter Patricia May Blankenship, her grandson Samuel Dean Cripple Jr., son-in-law Samuel D. Cripple, brothers Carl and Jimmy White, and her sister Patsy Walls. Friends will be received Sunday, May 18, 2014, from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at the Wood-Kortright-Borkoski Funeral Home, 703 E. Main St., Ravenna, where the funeral service will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Aten at 11:00 AM on Monday. Interment will follow at Charlestown Cemetery. Special thanks to the staff of Akron City Hospital 3rd Floor Acute Palliative Care Unit, especially nurse Debbie, and caregivers Kathy Ledbetter and Brenda Moore."
