Rich Brackett passed away Saturday, February 27, 2016, after a fight with cancer, at the age of 49. He spent 73 days at Iowa Methodist Hospital with family and friends by his side daily.

Rich was born September 29, 1966, in Des Moines, IA to Richard and Carmen (Henry) Brackett.

Rich graduated from East High School in 1985.

He joined the Air Force in 1987 where he was stationed in Myrtle Beach and worked on the A-10 Warthog (Thunderbolt). Rich was honorably discharge in 1991.

Following his service, Rich attended Hamilton Tech School in Des Moines.

He was employed by Anderson Window Storm Door Division/EMCO Specialties of Des Moines for 21 years.

Rich is survived by his wife of 16 years, Angie (Renaud) Brackett; children, Ashlynn and Caden; sister, Robin (Brackett) and Allen Hale of Des Moines; in-laws, Kevin and Marla (Pol) Renaud of Pella; sister-in-law, Treasa Vander Hart of Oskaloosa, IA; brother-in-law, Kevin and Brenna Renaud of Gilbert, AZ; nieces, Simonne, Aundrea, Larissa, Victoria, Moriah, Taylor, Katie, and Grace; nephew, Saxon; as well as many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Rich loved hunting, fishing, camping, family vacations, and several activities where the kids were involved. Rich also enjoyed the cousin reunions with his mom.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Lutheran Church of the Cross, 1701 8th Street SW in Altoona. Burial of cremated remains will be held at Altoona Cemetery at a later date.

The family wants to thank everyone for their support and prayers through this difficult journey. Rich was an amazing man, husband, dad, brother, son and friend to many. He will be missed but always in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Wounded Warriors Project or to the family for his children’s education fund.
