Death of a Minister
---•---
The sad news was received by telegraph this morning, of the death, near Brownsville, Tenn., of the Rev. Dr. S. W. Moore, pastor of the Central Methodist church in this city. He is to be buried at Brownsville this afternoon, so said the dispatch, from his son [Rev. Warner Moore], who is also a minister located at Ripley, Tenn., but during his father's illness in attendance at the sufferer's bedside. The Rev. Dr. W. C. Johnson left this city today to attend the obsequies of his late friend and fellow minister. Dr. Moore has been pastor of the Central Methodist church of this city for about a year past, and during his stay has made many friends, while he was held in great veneration and esteem by his congregation. He was a most righteous man of scholarly attainments, and for a number of years was president of the college at Trenton, Tenn. He also served as pastor of the churches at Brownsville and Paducah, and wherever known was exceedingly popular. The excellent divine was about sixty years of age. His demise leaves a void in the hearts of his congregation, and his memory will be held in reverence by thousands in this city and elsewhere.
