On March 26, 1821, he married Catherine Kase (1801-1842), daughter of John Kase and Rachel Larison Kase. Albe was a schoolmaster first in Connecticut, then New Jersey and finally central Pennsylvania, near the present day Paxinos, Northumberland County. He was postmaster, general merchant, and principal citizen there. He was a member of the Pennsylvania Legislature during the session of 1834 when he introduced the bill providing for the first public school system in the state. Thaddeus Stevens, member of the House from Adams County, is generally credited for the passage of the bill, owing to his efforts in preventing its repeal.
