Melvin proudly served our country in the Ohio National Guard and United States Army from 1948-1953. After his service he worked for Automatic Feed and retired in June of 1992. He worked hard for his family and community driving the Henry County Senior Center Van (of which he was Senior Citizen of the year in 1999 ) and he was also a farmer. He was a member of the Napoleon American Legion Post 300. He was also a member of Peace Reformed Church of Napoleon, OH of which he was a former deacon and Treasurer. Melvin’s hobbies included traveling, fishing, going to the lake, OSU fan and collecting miniature toy tractors. He was a friend to all and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Melvin is survived by his wife Joann (Schroeder) Weber; children Marcia (Daniel) Baldwin of Ayersville, Ohio; Karen (Phil) Dennie of Napoleon; Jeffrey (Char) Weber of Napoleon; Peggy (Jim) Bebler of Napoleon; and Terry Weber of Napoleon; two step children: Randy (Mary) Schroeder of Defiance and Dr. Gary Schroeder of San Diego, CA. ; sister Esther (Weber) Bischoff of Napoleon and sister in laws: Lea Weber and Mary Weber. Melvin is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Melvin was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Margaret (Bortz) Weber, his first wife Dolores Ann (Busch) Weber, and infant son Tony Weber. He also was preceded in death by his siblings: infant brother Robert Weber, Mary Hahn, Richard Weber, Kenneth Weber, Carl Weber, Rozella Miller, Donna Page, Ruth Coressel, Harold Weber and June Mengerink.
A visitation will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at Snyder-Wesche-Hoening Funeral Home (830 North Scott Street, Napoleon) from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will follow on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Peace Reformed Church of Napoleon, OH (638 Huddle Road) at 11:00 a.m. with one hour viewing prior to the service. Reverend Steve Altman and Pastor Marvin Rettig officiating. Memorials in honor of Melvin’s memory are suggested to Peace Reformed Church of Napoleon, Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice or the donor’s choice.
