Parents were Edmund Johnson Jr. and Anna Smith. As an early settler with his brothers,Truman, Morris and Orange, he settled in the northwest of Oneida. They gave it the name of the Johnson Settlement. He married Almina Lovell June 8, 1841, Eaton County, Michigan. Smith and Almina resided on their farm, which was 4 miles west of Grand Ledge. He had lived there more than forty years at the time of his death. His funeral services were held at the Johnson school house by Rev. A. E.Bolster on Feb. 19, 1887.
