Obituary for Don E. Ferguson
Don E. Ferguson, 85, of Monroe, passed away peacefully at the Alice Lorraine Care Center, Monroe, on Sunday, February 28, 2016, with his daughter by his side.
He was born March 25, 1930 in Tazewell, TN to Joseph Elisha and Mertie Lucinda (Arnold) Ferguson. On December 23, 1950 he married the love of his life, Charlene M. Cline, in Tazewell. They were members of the Mayes Chapel Methodist Church in Tazewell. Sadly, she preceded him in death on September 10, 2004.
Don brought his family to Monroe in 1966 to work for Ford Motor Company. He spent 30 years at the Monroe plant, retiring in 1996.
Don and Charlene were members of Monroe Senior Citizens, and being outside made him very happy, that's where he enjoyed staying busy doing yard work and gardening. He will be remembered for the roses he grew.
Don is survived by his loving daughter, Phyllis E. (David E.) Gillispie of Monroe; 2 sisters, Margaret Earl of Monroe, and Ellen Cook of Knoxville, TN; 2 step grandchildren and 4 step great grandsons.
As well as his wife, he was also preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marie Welch and Mary Carmon, and 5 brothers, Esco, Ward, Leo, Ralph, and Kenneth.
The family invites friends to call at the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 South Telegraph Road, from 1-8 PM Tuesday, March 1. Funeral services to commemorate his life will take place 11 AM at the funeral home on Wednesday. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.
