Mrs. DelMonaco was born Dec. 13, 1913 in Waukesha, Wisconsin, a daughter of John and Maria “Mary” Oliva Rinna Leonetti. She was the fifth child born in a family of 10 children.

She moved to the area as a child and attended Sharon schools.

Her husband, Giovanni “John” DelMonaco, Sr. whom she married Feb. 10, 1934, passed away Dec. 7, 1963.

She worked at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Sharon as a coil winder during World War II. In June 1965, she found a job at the former Villa Arena Restaurant in Farrell as a salad maker three days a week. In no time she moved into an assistant cook position and then head cook. She was a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage and its former Ave Maria Society and Friendship Club. She and her mother were charter members of the St. Oliva Society at St. Bartholomew’s Church in Sharpsville, where she served as financial secretary for many years and worked the fish fry and noodle-making fundraisers.

She played cards and belonged to many card clubs with her friends. She was famous for her homemade noodles, pizzelle and Italian wedding cookies. No one left her home without a care package of her food. She also loved to crochet and work jigsaw puzzles.

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved spending time with them and attended all of their sporting events and music concerts.

Yolanda’s family would like to thank these doctors who provided her with compassionate and excellent care in her later years: Dr. Aaron Listopad, Dr. William Henwood and the late Dr. Frederick Uberti. Also, the staff at St. John XXIII Home for their care including: Donna, Sue, Jessica, Patty in the Boutique and all of the activities ladies too numerous to name to make sure she kept busy playing bingo, bocce, bowling, Uno, table volleyball and Yahtzee. And finally, the staff at UPMC Horizon, Greenville for their kindness and willingness to go above and beyond their duty to help Yolanda and her family in her final days and hours: Chandra, Melanie, Denise, Kitty, and Roberta.
