Nancy L. Erickson, age 75, of Eau Claire died on Thursday, February 25, 2016, at Mayo Clinic Health System-Eau Claire.

Nancy was born on November 30, 1940, to the late Harold and Loretta (Lemmer) Roberts in LaCrosse. Nancy was the 1958 valedictory graduate of Holmen High School, a 1962 graduate of UW-LaCrosse, and a 1988 Master’s graduate of UW-Eau Claire. She first taught English and mathematics, directed forensics and drama, for eight years at Luxemburg-Casco High School. This is where she met Al Erickson, whom she married on June 4, 1965, and later honeymooned with at Super Bowl II in Miami. From Green Bay, WI, Al and Nancy moved to Eau Claire in 1971. After nine years devoted to enjoying her two young sons, Gregg and Samuel, Nancy returned to teaching at Menomonie High School until retirement.

Everyone will remember Nancy’s love of books, which she said began back in Halfway Grade School, near Holmen, when she would attempt to read the whole trunk of books (fiction and nonfiction) delivered for all eight grades every two weeks. She also will be remembered as a teacher who loved everything about the profession: students, colleagues, academics, and co-curriculars – everything except being head advisor of proms. But mostly she will be remembered as a supportive spouse and a parent who treasured her sons and loyally supported their many sports; plus, a person who loved to laugh and tell stories to family, friends, and her prized grandchildren.

Nancy is survived by her sons, Gregg (Hester) of Lexington, SC, and Samuel (Jodi) of Eau Claire; granddaughters, Kaylee Erickson and Leah Munchmeyer; grandsons, Blake, Benjamin and Nathan Erickson; sister, LaVone Schmitz of Appleton, WI; brother, Homer Roberts of Holmen, WI; sisters-in-law, Lorna Nelson of Prentice, WI and Doris Erickson of Sussex, WI; brother-in-law, John Annen of Marshall, WI; many wonderful cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Along with many, many dear friends who added tremendously to her life.

Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Al; sister, Mary Annen; sisters-in-law, Rose Marie Erickson and Eunice Knapp; brothers-in-law, Iver Erickson, Arnold Erickson, Bill Knapp, Jim Nelson, and Gordy Schmitz.

Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at Hope Lutheran Church (on the corner of Starr Avenue and Eddy Lane) with Reverend Rick Lund officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday and also one hour prior to service on Tuesday. Interment will be held in Kennan Cemetery in Kennan, WI at a later date. Evergreen Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family.

In lieu of flowers, it was Nancy’s request for memorials which will be given to her favorite charities: Hope Lutheran Church-Rachel’s Place, Stepping Stones of Dunn County, Feed My People, and Beacon House.
