William Lloyd Aitken was born on October 21st, 1897, in Galt, Waterloo, Canada, and was the oldest son born to Alexander Ebling Aitken and Mabel Murray. Prior to the birth of his sister Verna in 1900, the family moved to Hamilton, Ontario, and resided at 21 Head Street. On September 15th, 1946, he married Laura Alma Eidt who was the daughter of Charles A. Eidt and Almina Motter. Lloyd passed away on October 12th, 1974, and was buried in Woodland Cemetery, Hamilton, with his wife and parents.

Military Service:
William Lloyd Aitken enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces, 86th Battalion, on September 9th, 1915, in Hamilton, Ontario. According to the Militia List of the Dominion of Canada, Part II, September 1925, Section V, "War Services of Officers of the Active Militia", page 172, Lloyd served as a Lieutenant with the 3rd M.G. Battalion in France and Belgium from April 20th, 1917, to February 11th, 1919, and was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. Personal family records indicate that he reached the rank of Major.
