Carrie Belle Hanna Daniels, 102, was born in Kingsburg, SC, the eldest and only surviving child of Metha Powell and James Richard Hanna, Sr. and the oldest surviving grandchild of Samuel and Rosetta Powell Hanna and Taylor and Amarintha Altman Powell. Carrie Belle grew up in the Hannah Community and graduated from Hannah High School with honors and fulfilled her dream of attending Limestone College, but was unable to complete her studies there, due to the difficulties of finding funds in the depths of The Great Depression. Returning to Hannah, she met and married Aubrey O. Daniels in 1934 and the couple moved to Lake City to put down roots and raise their family. They became active members of the Lake City First Baptist Church where, for more than 30 years, Carrie Belle was in charge of the church's infant Sunday School and nursery programs. Eventually turning that responsibility over to younger mothers, she moved on to lead the Young Women's Association (YWA) and in later years, she was one of the teachers of the adult women's Sunday School class.

For almost 40 years, she was an employee of the Lake City State Bank, now First Citizen's. Even after her retirement, she continued to be called on to train new employees and to fill in when needed. Aubrey's death in 1989 was followed by the death of her son Jamie's wife Ginger the next year. Then in her mid-seventies, Carrie Belle moved to Atlanta to help maintain a home for Jamie and his young sons, Joel and Aubrey, and again led an active life in school and community affairs. Through her membership in Briarlake Baptist Church, she made friendships that endured through her return with Jamie to Lake City after his retirement.

Carrie Belle's parents having both died in their early 40's, and as the oldest of the Hanna siblings, Carrie Belle and Aubrey became surrogate parents and grandparents, forming a close and loving extended family. Carrie Belle was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters: James R. "Bubba" (Duna) Hanna; Rebecca Hanna (Rollins) Rhodes; Harry (Geraldine) Hanna; Racheal Hanna Bennett Varnadoe (Joe), Covington, LA. Half-brother Charles (Harriet) Hanna, Florence. Step-sisters Jacqueline Deas Moss, Florence; Mildred Deas, Florence; Murine Deas, Florence.

Nearing the end of her long and blessed life, Carrie Belle's most strongly expressed wish was to be able to remain in her home as long as possible. That wish was made a reality primarily through the dedicated and compassionate care of her son Jamie, who made his home with her. He was supported and assisted by Pamela Jackson Armour, a model of the most skilled, tender and knowledgeable caregiver anyone could have. Son Kent and his wife Carol, niece Phyllis Rhodes Parker and her husband Rev. Bobby, sensitive, caring and supportive, all, as were special friends Linda McElveen and Rita Lee. McLeod Hospice provided well-trained, sensitive and comforting resources. Their support was invaluable, as was the link provided to Comfort Keepers whose presence in the final weeks was indeed a very special source of comfort. Words are inadequate to express the gratitude of the family to these and many, many more who enriched the life of Carrie Belle Hanna Daniels, and her family. Thank you all.
