Mr. Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Bentley Jr., age 78 of North Wilkesboro, passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, February 27th, 2016 at Mountlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Paul Hugger officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 PM until 1:30 PM, prior to the service in the Wayland Hall of First Baptist Church of North Wilkesboro.

Frank was born March 17, 1937 in Wilkes County to Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Ruby Brown Bentley. Frank initially worked at Northwestern Bank and continued with the bank as it transitioned to First Union, Wachovia and Wells Fargo. He retired as Vice President of Wells Fargo in 2003 after more than 40 years in the banking industry. Frank was a man of strong Christian values, faithfully serving his Lord Jesus Christ through his local church, First Baptist of North Wilkesboro. Frank was a Deacon and Chairman of several programs and committees. Frank was a life long member of the Boy Scouts of America and volunteered in leadership positions in local troops, District and Council levels. He was the 1st Waterfront Director at Camp Raven Knob in Dobson. He was awarded BSA's highest award, The Silver Beaver in 1970. Frank embodied the Boy Scout motto of "Be Prepared". As a teenager, Frank was active in sports and excelled in baseball, swimming and diving. After graduation from Wilkes Central High School, Frank enrolled at Appalachian State University (then Appalachian Teachers College). Frank served eight years in the National Guard, attaining the rank of supply sergeant. He and Bertha married in 1960 and lived in North Wilkesboro all his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Bentley is survived by his wife of 55 years, Bertha Ann Souther Bentley of the home, one son; Ben Bentley and wife Lynn of Winston-Salem and one brother; John R. Bentley and wife Glenda Bentley of North Wilkesboro.
