Gladys Robinson Hughes, age 93, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 6th, 2017 at the Mitchell House. Formerly of the Bee Log Community, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Elzie and Ada Higgins Robinson and the wife of the late Andrew Pate who passed away in 1986 and the late Herman Hughes who died in 2003. She was also preceded in death by three brothers: Willie, Virgil and Andy Robinson. Gladys worked in food service for 18 years with the Yancey County School System and loved her family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts and spending time with her loved ones. She will be missed dearly.

She is survived by her husband, Howard Williams; a daughter, Mae Doane of Marion; two sons: JD Pate and wife, Elizabeth, and Johnny Robinson and wife, Jewell, all of Burnsville; two granddaughters: Denise Pate of Burnsville and Misty Spivey and husband, Rev. Travis Spivey, of Pickens, SC; grandson, Jason Robinson and wife, Teena, of Burnsville; five great-grandchildren: Dustin Sturgill and wife, Elizabeth, Natasha Hudgins, Tacoma Spivey, Kamry Spivey and Ryker Robinson; three great, great-grandchildren: Rilee, Elijah and Sadie; sister, Anna Mae Vickers of Burnsville and brother, Fred Robinson of Old Fort. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 11th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Her grandsons, Rev. Dustin Sturgill and Rev. Travis Spivey will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bee Log Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

The family would like to say a special thank you to all the staff at the Mitchell House and Hospice for the wonderful care given to Gladys. Flowers are appreciated or memorial donations may be made to Medi-Home Hospice at 1955 Newland Highway, Newland, NC 28657.
