Our hearts are broken.

Bruce John Sanders, 59, of Beaufort, passed away Friday, February 26, 2016.

A Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel in Morehead City with Pastor Manley B. Rose, Jr. officiating.

He is survived by ... and dog, Tyler.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Doris Sanders.

Bruce was born in New York City and grew up in Maryland. He was a professional auto mechanic since graduating high school and had been employed most recently at Chadwick’s Tire. Bruce was well known within the East Coast dive community for scuba instruction and videography. He was an avid photographer both underwater and on land, also serving as the official photographer for the Penguin Plunge for the past 2 years. Bruce recently obtained his Coast Guard Captain’s License in addition to working as part of the crew for the dive boat Atlantis IV for the past nine seasons.

Many people knew Bruce as “Das Junkman” because of his lifelong passion for wreck diving. Instantly outgoing and helpful, he enjoyed having friends over to cook out and smoke cigars. The Jumping Run Hunting Club is where he shot his largest deer last fall, and he could catch lobster and spear fish while diving (if not being harassed by sharks)!

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial donations may be made to The Art’s Council of Carteret County, in memory of Bruce Sanders, PO Box 2294, Morehead City, NC 28557.
