Businessman and politician. He was raised in Wilmette, Illinois, and attended the public schools of Wilmette. After moving to Hartland in 1904, he owned and operated a woodwork manufacturing business that produced doors, shingles, blinds, sashes, shipping crates, and storage boxes. A Republican, he served in several local offices, including school board member and town auditor. He was Hartland's member of the Vermont House of Representatives for two terms (1923-1927), and represented Windsor County in the Vermont Senate for one term (1927-1929).
