'Tom Maynard, known as "Acrefoot" is dead at the home of his granddaughter, Vannie, on the the Brushy Fork of John Creek at Heenon, Kentucky. He would have been 94 years old on September 15. His death followed a brief illness. He was fond of long walks [hence the nickname Acrefoot] and of horseback riding until a week ago. He is survived by sons Rell, Mose, Herbert, and Sophia. He had the distinction of being the only Methodist on Brushy. Rev. T. T. Webb, pastor of the Pikeville M. E. Church, South, had charge of the funeral.'
