TYLER — Services for John Edwin Brookshire Jr., 81, of Gilmer, will be held on Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler. Visitation will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 from 5-7 p.m., also at the funeral home. John was born to the late John E. Brookshire Sr. and Vertice Hitt Melton in Gilmer on January 21, 1935 and went to be with the Lord on Thursday February 25, 2016 in Tyler.
John was the owner of The Atari Shop in Longview for numerous years, and spent his retirement as a greeter for Walmart throughout the East Texas Area. He was a devoted husband, passionate father, and loving pawpaw (grandfather).
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, of 5 years, Martha Welch Brookshire; his children, Dale and Janet Brookshire, Joseph and Becky Brookshire, Jan and Rick Mills; his four stepchildren; sister, Betty Varner Manasco; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and many friends. He is preceded in death by his parents and late wife of 37 years, Martha G. Buchanan Brookshire.
