EMILY JANE HAWKINS
Mich. – Emily Jane Hawkins, 86, of Battle Creek, Mich. and formerly of Tipton died Oct. 10, 2010.
She was born July 23, 1924 in Goldsmith, the daughter of Robert Franklin and Ruby C. (Henderson) Smith.
Emily graduated from Goldsmith High School on April 22, 1942 and continued her education at The Methodist School of Nursing in Indianapolis, graduating on Oct. 3, 1945 as a registered nurse.
She married Arnold Allen Hawkins on Nov. 1, 1946 in Kempton. He preceded her in death.
Emily worked as a registered nurse at Tipton Hospital for 25 years, at various other hospitals and as a private nurse.
She was a member of Goldsmith United Methodist Church, the O.E.S. of Tipton and The Methodist Hospital Nurses Alumni Association.
She enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening and yardwork, and reading her Bible, but she especially loved her grandchildren.
Emily is survived by her son, Ronald (Soon) Hawkins of Battle Creek; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Lettie Jean Bozell.
A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010 at Goldsmith United Methodist Church with Pastor Mike Weber officiating.
The family is being assisted by Shaw Funeral Home, Battle Creek.
