Jill Hart Smith Baird, age 66, of Salmon, Idaho, died February 25, 2016 at her home.

She was born in Preston, Idaho, on August 9, 1949 to Shakespere Newton “Newt” and Eva Lorraine (Kershaw) Hart. After her parents divorced, she moved with her mom and two sisters to Middleton, Idaho where she attended junior high school, and she enjoyed being on the drill team with batons.

She moved to Salmon, Idaho to live with her dad when her mom re-married. She met and married Robert “Bob” Leroy Smith on December 16, 1965 at the young age of 16! She also finished high school! She worked with Bob on their jet boat river guide business on the Main Salmon River, in which he built his own boats. She provided enormous amounts of delicious meals for the guests “Dudes”. She and Bob had a beautiful lodge at China Bar on the Main Salmon where they enjoyed many wonderful years until selling their business.

Jill and Bob built a beautiful log home on Hughes Creek where they raised their two daughters. Jill’s talents for decorating and design were displayed in every detail of their home and landscape. She was a wonderful homemaker.

Jill loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much, along with all of her family.

A few years after Bob’s death, Jill married a long-time friend, Chuck Alfred Baird, on September 8, 2011. Chuck and his now-deceased wife, JoAnn, were long-time friends with Jill and Bob, taking several vacations together and enjoying a lot of fun experiences. Jill loved Chuck until the day she died. She and Chuck enjoyed old westerns on TV and current news events. One of their favorite shows was “Gunsmoke.” Their other favorite thing to do was spoil their “Westie” dog named Sugar.

Jill is survived by her husband, Chuck Alfred Baird; her two daughters, Bobbi Grace Smith-Faulkner (Kyle) and Katy Jo Smith; six grandchildren, Jacob Jeron Don Smith, Colt James (Jessica) Ford, Kristina Marie (Michael) Bradford, Stephani Lynn (Jesse) Whitley, Aryanna Raven Hart Clamor and Adrian Robert Nelson Clamor; two great-grandchildren, Jonathon Michael Bradford and Jaxon James Ford; two sisters, Josie (Mike) Anderson and Jeni Le Summers; two nieces, Colleen Hart and Teal Reibach; and five nephews, Daniel Hart, Dagan Anderson, Alex Paul Moffitt, Thor Anderson and Nathan Smith. Jill was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Smith, her parents, Newt Hart and Eva L. Campbell, her brother, Jonny K. Hart, and her nephew, Andrew Wayne Hart.

When Jill was younger and in good health, she was multi-talented at anything she wanted to do. Those things included visiting friends, swimming, sewing (even making up her own patterns and sewing on different fabrics such as deer leather), pottery, painting, poetry, training and riding horses, riding motorcycles, fishing, upholstery, cooking, canning, decorating and rubber rafting. In fact, she put together a team of lady friends on more than one occasion and won a rubber raft boat race during Salmon River Days.

She truly loved life and will be missed by many.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 204 Courthouse Drive, Salmon, Idaho, followed by a potluck luncheon in the Episcopal Parish Hall. Arrangements are under the direction of Jones & Casey Funeral Home. www.jonesandcaseyfh.com.
