Josephine died from a systemic sinus infection that caused her death at age 12 years, 8 months and 19 days. She was the daughter of Ray Ward Ashbrook, and Hazel Dell Dennison Ashbrook. Sister of Edna, Alma, Doris, Kathleen, Richard "Dicky" and Doyle. Showing is a scan of an original painting. The original is still marked clearly as to the color of her hair, eyes, and clothing. The painting was done by an unknown artist, likely from a photograph following Josephine's death.

Josephine passed away Sunday evening at 11:oo PM aged 12 years 9 months and 18 days after struggling several days to retain the spark of life. She was operated on Thursday afternoon at 6:00 PM and again Saturday. Both operations being for sinus trouble resulting from a cold. Septic poisoning set in and death followed a day later.
