He was born on Aug. 12, 1939 in Madison County, the son of Lawrence and Goldie Exline Long.
A graduate of Simon Kenton High School and a Navy veteran, Ed retired from Lowe's Garden Center. He was also a founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church.
Ed is survived by his wife, Barbara Wise Long, whom he married June 12, 1965.
Also left to cherish Ed's memory are his children, Jeni (Shawn) Crowe and Monte (Melody) Long of Wilmington, along with five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are siblings, Grace (Roger) Everhart, Dorothy (Robert) LaPine and Carol (Irvin) Pollock; sisters in-law, Irma Carol Long and Sue Long; and brother in-law, Charles Adams.
Ed was preceded in death by siblings, Barbara Adams, Robert and Wayne Long.
Family will receive friends on Sunday from 1-3 p.m., with a funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina. Burial will follow in the Centerville Cemetery, Lees Creek.
