Per classmates' records in Coaldust Memories, as of March 6, 1944:
Sgt. George Frank "Yurgy" Lutchkus
USMC, B. Co. 1st Btn., 27 Marines FMF, Marine Div.
Camp Pendleton, Ocean Side, Calif.
Page 5:
"The latest dope on "Yurgy" Lutchkus seems to be that he is once again off to the wars. The last we saw him was about a year ago. He had just come back from Guadalcanal, where he did a bang-up job. Looks like he is going to get that second slap at the Japs that he wanted so badly. Good luck, Yurgy! The lad was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star Medal for conspicuous gallantry against the Japanese."
