Lola Pearson Harrison

God in His profound wisdom has called Mrs. Lola Pearson Harrison, 95, of Douglas Drive, Morganton, from labor to reward on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006, at her residence following a period of declining health.

Born Nov. 18, 1910, she was the daughter of the late William Pearson and the late Mary Collett Pearson.

Lola was a lifelong member of Slades Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a devout Sunday school scholar, served as a deaconess, and was designated "Mother of the Church," and was a former class leader, and a member of the 20th Century Club. She also enjoyed visiting other area church services as often as she could.

She was a member of the Burke County branch of the NAACP and the Bethune Women's Civic Club. She was a member of the Berry-Chambers-Wright American Legion Auxiliary. She was retired dietician at the Morganton Community House.

She is survived by two sons, Earl Fleming and his wife, Rachel, of Morganton and Jullius Harrison Jr. and his wife, Cheryl, of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Vivian Martin and her husband, Henry, with whom she made her home, and Lola Demetrius Tucker of Morganton; a sister, Frances Howell of Morganton; 19 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 26 great-great grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Fleming Jr.; and her second husband, Jullius Harrison Sr.; three sons, Joseph Fleming III, Eugene Fleming and Vernon Harrison; a daughter, Patricia Gail Harrison; a brother William Pearson Jr.; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Slades Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with the Revs. Samuel Obadiah Richardson, W. Flemon Mcintosh Jr., Herbert Carter, Diane E. Conley, Ronald Knight and Min. Tyrant Michaux officiating.

The family will receive friend from 2:30 p.m. to 2:55 p.m. at the church.

Burial will follow at Olive Hill Cemetary. The family is being assisted by Ebony Funeral Services, Morganton.
