Laura Virginia Horton Powell, 90, of Spartanburg, SC, beloved wife of the late Edward Powell, departed this world into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Spartanburg Medical Center. Born August 6, 1925, in Spartanburg, she was the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Horton and Ollie Belle Malone Horton.

A 1943 graduate of New Prospect High School, Virginia married Edward Cecil Powell in August of the same year and worked in the Spinning Department of several area cotton mills for many years. She loved her family and did much for them while helping others through the years. She also loved cooking so others could enjoy a good meal and will be lovingly remembered by many. She was a faithful Christian who served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as an active member of Northbrook Baptist Church.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, February 26, 2016, in Good Shepherd Memorial Park, 4164 Boiling Springs Rd., Boiling Springs, SC 29316, by the Rev. Benny Green Jr. and the Rev. Jack Hames. Visitation will follow at the graveside.
