In high school, Elmer starred in Choir and Track, and was the lead in his sophomore play. He graduated June 10, 1948, and joined the US Army 8 days later, serving in Japan and then the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Bronze Star for actions above and beyond the call of duty in 1950-52. Elmer also served 1 yr. in Vietnam, and retired from the military in 1971. Elmer then spent 19 years with the telephone company.

Elmer served as a former President of the Senior Center Board, a former Chief of the VFW, former Library Board Pres., and was elected to for a 4 yr. term on the City Council.

Elmer is survived by his wife, four children, one step-son, 11 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister. Surviving Elmer are his two brothers
