Newton served as a Apprentice Seaman, U.S. Navy during World War I.

He resided in Elsmere, New Castle County, Delaware & attended the University Of Delaware prior to the war. His name is shown on the Memorial plaque in Memorial Hall at the university.

He enlisted in the Navy on June 19, 1918 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Newton died of influenza at the Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, Illinois during the war.

Son of Evelyn Forman Derickson who resided in Elsmere, Delaware.
