One term Senator John Sawyer, Jr. was the son of John Sawyer, Sr. (B abt 1729) and Jean Allen (B 1736, married 27 Oct 1757). He married Mary Bell, the daughter of Samuel Bell, in 25 May 1809. During the War of 1812, he served as a private in the PA State militia for Capt. Peter Snyder's company, 2nd Regiment, 1st Brigade from Sep 1814 to Mar 1815. They served under Lieutenant -Colonel Adam Ritscher. He was a U.S. Representative, for Dauphin County in 1815 -1817 and U.S. Senator for four years in 1818 -1822.
