William C. Daniel of Anniston, a former Calhoun County District Court Judge, died Saturday at University Hospitals in Birmingham. He was 68.

Longtime friend Clyde Pippin said Mr. Daniel was very active with church functions and especially on the golf course.

Mr. Daniel was a former assistant district attorney for Calhoun County. He became county court judge in 1970 and was unopposed in an election for that post in 1974. He became a district court judge in 1976 when the new Judicial Article went into effect. He resigned his district judgeship in 1978.

A Randolph County native, Mr. Daniel had lived in Anniston most of his life. He was a graduate of Anniston High School and the University of Alabama, where he obtained his law degree. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean War and worked for State Farm Insurance as a claims adjuster.

Mr. Daniel was a member of the Alabama Bar Association, personnel manager at Parker-Hannifin Corp. in Jacksonville for many years and was past president of the Anniston Lion's Club. He was a member of the Exchange Club, worked with the Boy Scouts' Choccolocco Council and was a member of VFW Post 924. He was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church and its Baraca Sunday School Class.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Parker Memorial Baptist Church. Entombment will be in Forestlawn Gardens Mausoleum with Gray-Brown Service Mortuary in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bernice W. Daniel of Anniston; two daughters, Ms. Nancy Hansen of Oxford and Mrs. Kathryn Erwin of Blue Mountain; a son, William C. Daniel, Jr. of Saks; two sisters, Miss Gay Daniel and Mrs. Audrey Wright, both of Talladega; a brother, Ed Daniel of Talladega and two grandchildren.
